Sion Railway Over Bridge: The flyover on Sion railway line of Central Railway is closed for traffic. All kinds of traffic have been stopped on this bridge from midnight on Wednesday.

Sion Railway Bridge: The flyover on Sion railway line of Central Railway is closed for traffic from 12 midnight yesterday (Wednesday). All kinds of traffic will be stopped from this bridge. This 112-year-old British-era bridge is dilapidated and will be demolished for safety reasons and a new bridge will be constructed in its place. The construction of the new bridge will be completed by July 31, 2026. Meanwhile, after the Sion Railway Over Bridge is closed, there will be a major impact on the road traffic in Mumbai and passengers will have to take a long detour.

A new bridge will be constructed in place of the existing ROB near Shiv Railway Station at a distance of 12/10-11 km in coordination with Central Railway, Mumbai Municipal Corporation. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai, in its structural audit report had recommended the removal of the ROB and the reconstruction of a new ROB with steel girders and RCC slabs. A new bridge will be built after that.

For 2 years from 1st August 2024 to 31st July 2026, the Sion Over Bridge connecting Sion East-West area will be demolished and constructed by the Central Railway Authority. Due to this, B.A. from Matunga Transport Department. Also traffic from the Kurla traffic division on L.B.S. Road or Sant Rohidas Road heading eastbound via the Sion overbridge towards Dr. B.A. Road, will be diverted.  From Saint Rohidas Road to Sion Over Bridge East Channel to B.A. Traffic passing through the road is temporarily closed. The traffic on these routes has been diverted and managed as follows. The administration has appealed to the citizens to please take note.

Central Railway will spend 23 crores and Mumbai Municipality will spend 26 crores in construction of new bridge. After the demolition of the bridge, there will be major changes in the transport system connecting East and West Mumbai. Vehicles on both sides will have to take a sharp detour.
